ABA Therapy

Early childhood is a critical time for development. We specialize in providing compassionate and effective Early Intervention ABA Therapy that can help to address problem behaviors and promote skill acquisition in areas such as communication, language, social skills, toilet training, dressing and other and daily living skills. Early Intervention ABA Therapy is tailored specifically for children aged 0-6 with or without a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or any other developmental disability.  We are dedicated to helping your child reach their fullest potential through evidence-based practices carried out in the home, daycare, or school environment. All programs are developed and supervised weekly by our BCBA’s who have a combined 35 years of experience. Our approach begins with a thorough assessment to understand your child’s strengths, needs, and goals, leading to a personalized treatment plan that evolves as your child progresses.

Behavioral Intervention

Sometimes, children engage in problem behaviors that are persistent and become difficult for parents to manage. Behavioral Intervention Services offers a more focused and comprehensive approach to treating these behaviors.

Behavioral Intervention Services involve an assessment of the problem behaviors to understand what, in your child’s context, might be contributing to the behavior, and using the results of this assessment to inform the development of a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP).

This plan involves applying specific techniques to encourage desirable behaviors and reduce or eliminate undesirable ones. Our BCBAs will review and model the BIP to parents or caregivers, evaluate any changes based on data, and make necessary adjustments to the program.

Parent Coaching and Support

Sometimes parents experience difficulty with managing problem behaviors, and require some support in terms of tips and strategies that they can use to help decrease problem behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors. With Parent Coaching and Support Services, our BCBAs carefully discuss behavioral concerns that parents may have for their child, and provide recommendations so that parents can enhance their skills to effectively manage problem behavior. This approach aims to empower parents with the knowledge and tools needed to promote positive behaviors and learning outcomes.

Balance Program

Most children occasionally engage in mild problem behaviors such as verbal protesting or refusal when told no, asked to wait or transition, tantrum behavior and/ or mild hitting or kicking. However, these behaviors can potentially increase the risk for the development of more severe problem behaviors if they are starting to happen more frequently, and/ or if the child has been recently diagnosed with a developmental disorder  such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  The Balance Program is an evidence-based prevention program, pioneered by Dr. Gregory Hanley (BCBA-D) and Dr. Kelsey Rupel (BCBA-D). The program teaches children critical coping skills and communication before mild problem behaviors become habitual and potentially evolve into more severe problem behaviors. The program is parent-led, with weekly supervision by our BCBA’s.

Skill-Based Treatment (SBT)

Although most children engage in problem behavior, for some, these behaviors occur too frequently and can become severe, sometimes risking injury to the child themselves or others around them. These severe problem behaviors may include headbanging, physical aggression, property destruction, and elopement.

Skill-based treatment is a cutting-edge program that uses a trauma-informed approach to treat severe problem behavior. This means that treatment is implemented in a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment.

Dr. Gregory Hanley (BCBA-D) and his team of researchers pioneered this evidence-based program that allows children to live free of severe problem behaviors by teaching the skills of communication, toleration (i.e., waiting for desirable activities or tolerating “no”), and cooperation. Children can then use these new skills when they encounter situations that would have normally produced problem behaviors in the past. Once these skills have been taught, they are then generalized to other contexts that are part of the child’s day to day life.

This program begins with conducting a Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) with your child, which will allow our BCBA’s to gain an understanding of what, in your child’s context, is  contributing to their problem behaviors. Subsequently, the Skill-Based Treatment program is tailored to your child and implementation can begin once the PFA is complete and there is a clear understanding of the problem behavior. This program requires a minimum of 3 sessions per week, 2 of which are supervised by our BCBA’s and one which is implemented by the parent outside of the supervised sessions.

Sleep Intervention Services for Families

Sleep disturbances in children are common and can lead to sleepless nights becoming a regular occurrence in your household, and taking a toll on your whole family. Our personalized sleep programs use a compassionate approach and evidence-based strategies that are designed to help families achieve better sleep without the tears and stress often associated with traditional sleep training methods.  Once the child’s sleep plan is developed, our BCBA’s provide ongoing support throughout the process. This process typically takes 4 weeks to complete, however please note this can vary with each individual and the complexity of the sleep problem behavior. This process is front-heavy, as our BCBA’s will initially meet with you to obtain information and subsequently develop a sleep treatment program. Once parents begin to implement the sleep program, daily check-ins will be provided, and then support will gradually be faded as parents become more familiar and comfortable with the intervention, and sleep behavior begins to improve.
